Exercise: Positioning the Horizon

Middle Horizon
Low Horizon
High Horizon

Out of the three photos my favourite is the high horizon as there is a greater feeling of depth. The middle horizon is a flat image and does not invoke any emotion and the low horizon has to much of the photo with blank space.

Assignment 1

Finished the assignment at last, only 1 week behind schedule. This hasn't been helped by the work load and not getting back home until late and the model shoots at the weekend.

Hopefully back on track now and will start studying 2hrs a night. Also reading the book Light, Science and Magic which I'mm finding very interesting. Most of the examples are done using large lights and unfortunately my budget doesn't extend to getting a large softbox / flash lights.

Exercise - Vertical and Horizontal Frames

This exercise was done in my back garden looking at random objects and trying the vertical and horizontal frames. It was an interesting exercise and I feel that I vary the way I frame a picture anyway and have no particular preference.

Exercise - Focal Lengths and Different viewpoints

I started the exercise Focal lengths and different viewpoints, the first photo was taken with my zoom lens - Nikkor 70-300mm. The second one was with my primary lens a Nikkor 18-55mm. The main difference I noted was the saturation of the photo and also the clarity. The primary lens gave a crisper image.

Exercise - Focal Lengths

Following are two photos for the exercise - Focal Lengths. The smaller images were done with my standard lens while the close up one was done with my zoom lens.
