Colour Assignment ideas

I have various ideas for this assignment but want to do something completely different to the norm. To help with this below is the colour wheel showing the secondary colours.

I prefer this one at colourlife.com as per below:

This is a Tertiary colour wheel and shows the relationships clearer.

For this assignment we have to take 4 photographs of each of the following -
  • Colour harmony through complimentary colours
  • Colour harmony through similar colours
  • Colour contrast through contrasting colours
  • Colour accent using any of the above
I want something unusual to show these and will look at a theme.

Exercise - Colour Relationships

For this exercise I arranged three still life photos with the red/green , orange/blue and yellow/violet with the proportions of 1:1. 1:2 and 1:3.

Yellow/Violet on 1:3 ratio

Orange / Blue on 1:2 ratio

Red/Green on 1:1 ratio
Below are four colour combinations that appeal to me

This flower with the white and red does not clash with the green but compliments it.

I find these three colours together very calming.

This is a droplet of water on a cd. The rainbow effect shows a variety of colours that all work well together.

This Christmas decoration in Leeds castle also shows colours that work well together
There are so many different combinations that work, even those that you feel shouldnt as is in the green and red.

Exercise - Colours into tones in black and white

Blue Filter

Green Filter

Red Filter

Yellow Filter
For this exercise I used four strings of cotton with each of the primary colours as can be seen in the below picture. I then applied the filters in photoshop when the conversion to black and white was done.
